Following on from the weekends news about my new Hoddesdon and Stanstead Abbotts classes, I’m really pleased to be able to tell you that I’ve now finalised the details on my new evening class.

It will be a 90 minute Yin yoga class, and will be taking place in the Mayhem Theatre Arts Back Studio from 7:30pm - 9:00pm every Monday evening, starting from monday 1st October 2018.

I’m really excited to be able to add a new style of yoga to my timetable, and I also feel that it will be very well suited to an evening class, as a perfect way to relax away the stresses of the days events…

What Is Yin Yoga

For those of you who don’t know about Yin yoga, it focuses more on floor based passive poses, working more the hips, pelvis, inner thighs and the lower spine. Yin yoga works on the passive stretching of connective tissues (tendons, ligaments and fascia), which all respond better to a longer duration in postures, which in time helps to increase flexibility and mobility.

In Yin, poses are held for a lot longer than maybe a typical Hatha yoga class, while we still work to towards bringing awareness to the breath, and presence of mind. Poses are held typically between three to five minutes each but this can vary.

Yoga Bolster

Yin yoga encourages the use of props such as blankets, blocks, bricks and bolsters (which are used predominantly). These help to support the body whilst in poses to aid release and relaxation.

Benefits of Yin Yoga

  • Revitalises the tissues of the body
  • Lowering of stress levels

  • Calming and balancing to the mind and body
  • Encourages mindfulness and meditation
